Guatemala is concluding its Digital Government Plan 2021–2026, amidst a significant "institutional reset" of its judicial and oversight bodies. While the country lacks a dedicated personal data protection law, the Constitutional Court has begun issuing rulings that grant data subjects rights of rectification and cancellation. The 2026 focus is on securing Initiative 5601 (Cybercrime Law) to provide a clearer legal framework for prosecuting ransomware and phishing. In the absence of a central regulatory agency, the private sector leads in adopting ISO/IEC 27001 standards.
